KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Khushbu Oli has said that the anomalies seen in the judiciary and the recent developments have affected the trust of the general public towards the judiciary.

Talking to media persons at a meeting of the main opposition parties called by the Nepali Congress in Singha Durbar on Monday, she said that there is a need for comprehensive reforms in the judiciary. He said that the problem of judiciary will not be solved by impeaching one or two judges.

She said that there was a need for reappointment and restructuring along with comprehensive reforms to end the anomalies seen in the judiciary. She made it clear that the party would take an official opinion on the impeachment issue only after studying the facts and evidence received from the investigation.

“The kind of incident that has come out in the judiciary is a matter of great concern. Even if the general public does not have faith in some other administration, they continue to trust the judiciary. Especially in rural areas, trust in the judiciary is important,” she said. ‘

“I think the current developments have hurt the sentiments of many Nepali people. We have seen the need for comprehensive reforms in the judiciary as we have been watching for many years. Impeachment of one or two people alone will not lead to complete reform. What are the charges against them, what facts and evidence come out of the investigation, only then will the Rastriya Prajatantra Party take an official opinion. At present, we believe that the judiciary should go for a kind of reappointment and restructuring by comprehensively reforming the kind of distortions that we are experiencing in the judiciary,” she said.

Oli said that the party will decide whether to support the process of moving ahead with the impeachment issue only after studying and debating the government. Stating that the issue of the basis on which the impimpeachment motion is registered is important, she said that further discussion would be held in the party after studying it.

She stressed that the issues related to the judiciary should be taken seriously and discussed in the parliament. She said that there is a need to debate on the constitution, police, security agencies and the statements of the Finance Minister in the parliament as various important issues are being made public in the country while the parliament is closed.

Oli also said that the issue of taking initiative to convene the parliament session was raised in the meeting of the opposition parties. She said that after the meeting, the leader of the main opposition party will get more information on this matter.
