493 applications for second extension of term in election police

Kathmandu. The deadline for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 4 has been extended for the second time after not enough applications were received as demanded by the Election Police. A total of 4,93 people have applied for the post of election police.

According to the District Police Office, Dhankuta, there is a total of 1,085 election police personnel for election security in the district. In the first phase, applications were invited from January 8 to January 14. However, the deadline was extended till January 16 for the first time as the application was not received as per the quota.

Only 1,018 applications were received during the first extended period. Although all the applicants were selected, 67 were found to be inadequate. According to the District Police Office, Dhankuta, there is a shortage of more than 100 election police after some of the applicants could not come into contact.

After failing to meet the required number, a notice was issued to apply for the second time on January 24 and 27. According to Police Inspector Kishor Tamang of District Police Office, Dhankuta, 493 people have applied for the same.

Tamang said that the selection process started from Monday as more applications were received than the demand after the deadline was extended for the second time. According to him, the candidates fulfilling the required criteria would be selected and mobilized for election security.
