Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has announced that he will increase tariffs on goods imported from South Korea from 15 percent to 25 percent.

Trump has imposed tariffs on South Korea, accusing South Korea of “not implementing it properly” in last year’s trade deal. The decision is expected to affect cars, wood products, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, mobiles, TVs, steel sheets, electric vehicle components, among others.

Trump called it a “reciprocal tariff” — in which a country imposes higher tariffs on American goods and the United States imposes higher tariffs on goods coming from that country.

South Korea said it had not received any official information about the US decision and called for immediate talks.

According to experts, this decision is likely to have a direct impact on industries and consumers in both countries.
