Restricted flights resume at Dubai airport

Kathmandu. Abu Dhabi airport authorities said on Monday evening “limited” flights resumed, three days after being cancelled following Iran’s invasion of the Gulf region, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports.

Dubai has announced the limited resumption of flights from Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).

Both Emirates and low-cost carrier Flydubai said they would resume some flights on Monday evening. Ehad Airways, which operates flights from Abu Dhabi, has announced that it will start flights from Tuesday.

In the Gulf countries, Iran has hit military bases with heavy bombing, as well as civilian infrastructure such as residential buildings, hotels, airports and seaports. The attack has stoked tensions in a region seen as a haven for long-running conflict in the Middle East.

Airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Manama have been targeted since the Iranian campaign began on Saturday. One person was killed in the incident in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, officials said.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced on Saturday that it has temporarily and partially closed its airspace.

Dubai’s main airport (DXB) is the second busiest airport in the world, after Atlanta in the United States, according to the International Airports Council.

The airspace closure affected an important sector for the city, with Dubai’s aviation industry accounting for almost a third of the UAE’s economy.
