UML to file candidacy for Speaker’s post

Kathmandu. The CPN-UML has said that it will hold a decision on whether to file candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives. The last date for filing nominations for the post of Speaker is 2:00 pm today.

CPN-UML lawmaker Ain Mahar said that the UML would support the candidacy of the opposition party and if the opposition did not file the candidacy, the UML would file its own candidacy.

“We will support the party if the opposition parties file their candidacy and if not, the UML will file its candidacy,” Mahar told Ratopati, adding, “The secretariat meeting at one o’clock will take a decision.” ’

In such a situation, UML will forward Vice-Chairman Guru Baral as its candidate for the post of Speaker. So far, the Nepali Congress and others have said that they have not held any discussion with anyone regarding the Speaker. Spokesperson Devraj Chalise said that there was no discussion on whether to file candidacy for the post of Speaker.

The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has already registered its nomination for the post of speaker of the House of Representatives. The arithmetic of the parliament is that Aryal will win the election even if all the opposition parties are united.
