Kathmandu. Five people, including a journalist, have been killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s national news agency said the incident had put pressure on the ceasefire.
According to the report, Israeli forces targeted a vehicle in the village of al-Tiri in southern Lebanon, killing two people. The Israeli military said the vehicle had left an area used by Hezbollah.
In another village, a female journalist working for the Al Akhbar news outlet was killed in an airstrike on a village building.
After the attack, she was trapped in the rubble of the building and her body was later recovered. Lebanon’s information minister condemned the attack and called for the safety and freedom of journalists.
The Israel Defense Forces said they had taken action because Hezbollah had violated the ceasefire. According to the IDF, the airstrike came after two Hezbollah members crossed the forward defense line in the Saluki area of southern Lebanon and came close to Israeli troops.
“The airstrikes were carried out in the Saluki area on Tuesday after two armed men violated a ceasefire and posed a threat to troops,” the Israeli military said in a statement. ’
Israel said it was continuing to destroy Hezbollah-linked military infrastructure and search for weapons in the area. The latest violence has re-escalated tensions between Lebanon and Israel.
