Govt forms probe committee to probe Kaptanganj incident, promises compensation to victims and action against culprits

Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has said its serious attention has been drawn towards the incident that took place at Captain Gunj of Dewangunj Rural Municipality-3 in Sunsari district on July 26.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers expressed its commitment to provide appropriate compensation to the victims of the incident and take stern legal action against the guilty.

The government has also urged all sides to maintain religious tolerance, social harmony and mutual unity saying violence and confrontation could not solve any problem or dispute. It has also appealed to the citizens not to spread provocative or misleading information and not to be influenced by such information.

The government has paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured civilians and security personnel.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a probe committee to submit a report within seven days to investigate the incident. The committee has already started its work, the statement said.
