In Manang, candidates of CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have filed an application to withdraw their candidacies.

According to Chief Election Officer Ram Prasad Poudel, CPN-UML candidate Polden Chopang Gurung and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) candidate Kubir Singh Gurung had filed for withdrawal of candidacy some time ago. “They had filed an application to withdraw their candidacy a while ago. A decision will be made after 1 p.m. ”

As per the election schedule, the date for withdrawal of candidacy has been issued from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm today.

Earlier, the NC and UML candidates had agreed to distribute their candidacies by drawing lottery in Manang. According to CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Prithvi Subba Gurung, NC candidate Tek Bahadur Gurung and UML candidate Polden Chopang have decided to share their candidacies in the federal and provincial elections.

Gurung said that the UML party has not received any formal information about this and said that the decision could be based on the mutual understanding of the candidates. He added, “After knowing this, I have asked not to do the candidacy without mutual understanding. ”

Manang has two provincial assembly seats. One of the seats is vacant. Rajiv Gurung, who had contested as an independent candidate in 2079 BS, had filed an independent candidacy after the Supreme Court’s order. The Election Commission had fixed the date for the election, but it was postponed.

According to UML leaders, the Nepali Congress has agreed to support the UML in two areas in the upcoming provincial elections.

However, it is not clear why the RPP candidates have filed an application to withdraw their candidacy. Party spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha said that the party is not aware of this.
