Construction of 1,110-metre underpass in Sanga intensifies, 45 per cent complete

Kathmandu. The construction of a two-lane underpass at Sanga on the border of Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchok is gaining momentum. The total length of the underpass being constructed by the Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel Road Expansion Project under the Araniko Highway is 1,110 meters. The underpass includes 190 metres approach road towards Banepa and 900 metres towards Bhaktapur.

It will be 6 meters high and 10.5 meters wide. Sub-engineer Gyan Man Shrestha said a 20-meter bridge will also be constructed inside the underpass. According to him, around 45 percent of the underpass construction has been completed so far. The construction of the foundation and superstructure is currently underway. The 15.8-km Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road section is being divided into two sections. The 8.3-km Sanga-Dhulikhel section and the 7.5-km Suryabinayak-Sanga section were expanded in separate contracts.

According to the project’s information officer Anju Pariyar, 43 percent physical progress has been made so far. The contract for the Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road project was signed on January 9, 2022.

The 7.5-km Suryabinayak-Sanga road section was contracted at a cost of Rs 3.88 billion while the 8.4-km Sanga-Dhulikhel road section was contracted at a cost of Rs 4.05 billion. Although the initial agreement period of the project was till Poush 6, 2080, the construction period has been extended till mid-March, 2083.
