238 killed in road accidents in January

Kathmandu.  As many as 238 people were killed in road accidents across the country in the month of January. According to the data released by Nepal Police, 238 people lost their lives in 4,549 road accidents in the last fiscal year. Among them, 192 are men, 31 women and 15 children. As many as 663 people were seriously injured in road accidents in December.

Similarly, 3,353 people sustained minor injuries, according to the police data. The highest number of 2,382 motorcycle accidents took place in the month of January. Similarly, 736 jeeps, cars and microbuses, 180 buses and 247 tempos were involved in road accidents.

According to the police data, 288 trucks, tankers and tippers met with accidents. Most of the road accidents took place between 12 noon and 12 midnight. According to police, over-speeding, unnecessary overtaking, drunken driving, driving disability and violation of traffic rules are driving in a hurry. The Traffic Police collected more than Rs 80.4 million in revenue by taking action against 88,969 drivers in the month of January.
