Kathmandu. CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali has said that former chairman of the party, Manmohan Adhikari, is a leader who can work by taking the youths into confidence. Gyawali made the remark while addressing the 27th memorial day of former chairman of CPN-UML and the first communist Prime Minister Adhikari.

He further said that the unification of then CPN-ML and Marxist Party in 1990 had given a message that youths should be established in the leadership by appointing 38-year-old Madan Bhandari as the general secretary.

“Even though he is 69 years old, Manmohan Singh raised the UML by taking the youths into confidence by making 38-year-old Madan Bhandari the general secretary,” said Gyawali. ’

Stating that the extremist mindset of the generation was dominant in some politics of today, he said that the country would be built only with the combination of mature guidance and energy of youths.

Gyawali has made it clear that Nepal’s communist movement has suffered a big setback in history. According to him, not only the communists but the entire democratic forces had suffered a setback from the March 21 elections.

According to Gyawali, the activities of the government formed after the elections have increased the concern that the country will gradually move towards elected totalitarianism.

“We are worried that the country will move towards elected totalitarianism,” he said, adding that the government’s decision to scrap trade unions, dissolve student unions that fought against Panchayat autocracy and dry up the resources of independent media. ’
