Kathmandu. The construction of the Gen-G Martyrs Memorial with statues of 42 of the 45 martyrs who lost their lives during the Gen-G movement on September 6 and 24 has been in limbo.
Although the construction of the monument had begun some time ago at the International Sports Complex, Satdobato, the construction work has come to a halt. The 124th board meeting of the National Sports Council (NSC) presided over by the then Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta had decided to provide land required for the construction of the park.
The concept of building the memorial is aimed at institutionalizing the memory of the martyrs of the Gen-G movement and passing on their contributions to future generations. The monument will be built in the historic and original Nepali style.
There is a plan to install statues of 42 martyrs who lost their lives during the agitation, build a memorial site and install various structures reflecting the contribution of martyrs. But with the halt in construction, the future of the project seems uncertain.
