. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is to provide basic health services to senior citizens above 70 years of age at their doorsteps. For this, the metropolis has started health survey of senior citizens from Sunday.
According to KMC, nurses from urban health promotion centers in all 32 wards are being mobilized for health screening.TAG_OPEN_p_5 The nurses have been given a four-day orientation training from Bir Hospital. Blood pressure, temperature, respiration, oxygen level will be assessed, the status of medication intake and the living environment will also be assessed.
After the preliminary check-up, the treatment will be taken to the Urban Health Promotion Center and if possible, it will be referred to Bir Hospital, according to KMC.TAG_OPEN_p_4 Free insurance programme up to one lakh rupees has been implemented for the senior citizens who are financially weak without bearing the burden of medical expenses.
In the first phase, health screening of 5 to 7 senior citizens will be conducted daily in each ward and this program will be conducted till the end of June.TAG_OPEN_p_3 According to KMC, the survey would help collect data related to the health of the senior citizens and would provide a basis for formulating future programmes.
