Communist unity should be seen in practice: Madhav Nepal

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Co-coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has stressed the need to take the communist movement ahead on the basis of self-analysis, collaboration and principled unity.

Speaking at a programme organized by the Madan Bhandari Foundation on the occasion of the 75th birth anniversary of late late leader Madan Bhandari at the City Hall here today, he said Bhandari’s ideology and leadership brought historic change in Nepal’s politics.

Stating that People’s Multiparty Democracy (JAWS) was an important ideological achievement of the Nepali communist movement, he said its role should be highly evaluated. He also pointed out the need of serious discussion and introspection on how to take the socialist movement ahead in the present context.

“The communist movement should be taken ahead on the basis of self-evaluation, collaboration and principled unity,” he said. People’s multiparty democracy is an important ideological achievement of the Nepalese communist movement and it should be highly appreciated. There is a need for serious discussion and introspection on how to take the socialist movement forward. ’

Nepal stressed the need for an honest review of the reasons for the weakening of the communist movement. According to him, individualism, corruption, distance from the people, inability to understand the changing social psychology and distortions seen in the organization could be the main reasons for the weakening of the movement. He also pointed out the need for all communist units of Nepal to introspect and introspect within their respective parties.

Stating that communist unity was not possible merely through slogans, he stressed the need to build strong and lasting unity on the basis of trust and principle by forging cooperation on common issues. Recalling the saying of Madan Bhandari that ‘words do not soak flattened rice’, he pointed out the need of practical collaboration.

“There should be honest introspection as to why the communist movement has weakened,” he said. We cannot move forward without reviewing individualism, corruption, distance from the people and distortions seen in the organization. All communist elements should introspect. Communist unity should be built on the basis of cooperation, trust and principle on common issues, not on slogans. As Comrade Madan Bhandari said, “The matter does not soak the flattened rice. Therefore, unity and cooperation should be seen in practice. ’

Claiming that Nepal’s nationality is in a challenging situation, he said that it should remain alert against the growing influence of foreign powers. Nepal should not become the centre of activities against any neighbouring country, he said, underlining unity among all patriotic forces to safeguard the national interests.

He also questioned the foreign policy of the present government. Accusing the government of not being aware enough towards the manipulation of foreign forces, he said the communist forces should take the initiative to protect democracy, republic and people’s rights.

He said, “There is a big challenge before the nationality now. We should be aware of the growing influence of foreign powers. Nepal should not become a hub for activities against any neighbouring country. It is necessary for all patriotic forces to unite to protect the national interest. The present government does not seem to be sensitive enough on this issue. The communist forces should play a leading role in the protection of democracy, republic and people’s rights. ’

Pointing out the need for the communist leaders to reach among the people and raise their problems and pains, he stressed the need to play an active role in the parliament, street and people’s level. He was of the view that self-centred thinking and selfish tendencies would weaken the movement, so freedom from such activities should be freed.

Recalling the contribution of Bhandari, he said that the new generation should take inspiration from his vision, organizational discipline, democratic practices and leadership style to encourage the cadres. Terming the death of Madan Bhandari still a suspicious incident, he expressed the view that the truth should be revealed.
