The construction of the Sanga underpass, the lifeline connecting Kathmandu and eastern Nepal, is in the final stage.

. This modern structure, which is considered to be the most important and attractive part of the Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road expansion project, is expected to make history the hardships faced by the commuters in the past.

Physical condition and technical details of the underpass{

The total length of this underpass is 1,11 TAG_OPEN_div_67 0 meters, which is systematically designed from the geographical and engineering point of view. The latest status of the project is as follows:

The total length of the road includes 190 meters approach road towards Banepa and 900 meters towards Bhaktapur.TAG_OPEN_div_65

Main Underpass: The main structure is 18 meters long, 6 meters high and 10.5 meters wide.

Current Work Progress: The first phase of blacktopping has been completed and the work of installing side retaining wall and blacktopping of the last phase is going on at a rapid pace.

After the completion of the project, vehicles heading towards Banepa from Kathmandu and Bhaktapur will be able to pass through the underpass.TAG_OPEN_div_57

TAG_OPEN_div_53 For now, special arrangements have been made so that the traffic management is not disturbed while carrying out the remaining work on the road. In order to make the work in the upper lane safe and convenient, the vehicles coming in and out of Kathmandu will be allowed to operate through the two lanes of this underpass.

Status of Overall Road Expansion Project

1. First section: Suryabinayak to Sanga (7.5 km)

{{TAG_OPEN_div_45} The construction of the road from Sanga to Dhulikhel has progressed at a much faster pace than the first section. The deadline of the project has been extended for the second time and the construction period has been extended till mid-March, 2083.

According to the project sources, the project has achieved 95 percent physical progress and the target is to complete all the work within this year.TAG_OPEN_div_43 With the construction of the Sanga underpass, the time of traveling along the Araniko highway will be saved and this infrastructure will prove to be an important milestone in transportation management.
