Let’s go to Kathmandu. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki, who was removed from his post on Wednesday, is going to the Supreme Court demanding reinstatement.
According to a lawyer close to Karki, they have demanded reinstatement of the police personnel saying it was against the Police Act to remove them from their responsibilities without any reason.
The petitioners argued that the three provisions—service period, term and age limit of the IGP—did not give authority to remove Karki from the post as per the provisions of the Police Act, 2012 and Police Rules 2071.
Karki joined the Nepal Police Service on April 1, 1998. The Police Regulations have fixed the service period of 30 years for the post of Inspector General of Police. The age limit is 58 years. Karki’s date of birth is 54 years as on July 1, 2029. The tenure has been fixed at 4 years. He will be appointed as IGP for one year on November 10, 2029.
Nepal Bar Association President Bijay Mishra and senior advocates Bhimarjun Acharya and Govinda Bandi are pleading on Karki’s case.
