Kathmandu. The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) held a discussion on the records burnt due to the agitation and incidents that took place on September 7 and 24, 2082.

Speaking at the meeting, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said there was no big difference between the government and the opposition parties regarding the nature of the problem. He said that although there are different opinions about the cause of the incident, everyone is aware of the damage and the circumstances of the incident.

He said the government would accept the directives given by the committee and move ahead as per the existing laws.

“I don’t think the government and the opposition have a different understanding of the nature of the problem. There may be a lot of disagreement as to why it happened, but we are all aware of the incidents, accidents and damage that took place before the naked eye. When there is a common thought on the problem, it seems that the same work will be done in the solution. We will guide the committee. Until then, it is up to the law. ’

Finance Minister Wagle has said that the government was ready to amend the laws if necessary for the management of records burnt during the agitation that took place on September 7 and 24, 2082.

He said that the committee should take the necessary decision on whether the existing law should cover the incident or not. He said that the committee has concluded that the law needs to be amended and the government is ready for it.

He said, “There is a debate whether or not the current law will include September 23 and 24 as an accident. If it doesn’t cover it, let’s go for the amendment. Let’s pass. We are ready to amend the law if the committee directs. But the committee will decide whether it will lead to a solution or complication. ’

He said that the use of digital technology should be prioritized to prevent such incidents from happening in the future and to keep government documents safe.
